The beginning of the Te Mooi journey, founded in August of 2018 by Melissa Olson. We do our best to find styles that make you excited about life & all the good it has to offer. We want to empower women to feel good and confident in the pieces they bring home. I believe that fashion plays a vital part in adding to people's self-confidence and expressing their uniqueness.
So shop your hearts out, we promise not to tell your husbands!
And before we go any further, let me introduce myself! I’m Melissa Olson. I'm a wife, a mom to a sweet and busy 2 year old boy and a wild frenchie named Frankie and a small business owner with a big dream! This past year my husband retired from his professional hockey career that took us all over North America and Germany over the past 10 years landing us in Cedar Falls. Establishing life back in North America after living 6 years abroad has been an adjustment but we are so happy to be back around our families.
I want to share my story in the most real and authentic way I know how. I want the Te Mooi brand to be known not only for style but also a place where individuals can come to find inspiration, love and support! I want to provide pieces that make you excited about life and all that it has to offer. I believe a large part of this takes you guys trusting in me and knowing who I am first. I want people to feel welcome to reach out to me and ask me anything. From style to business questions. For all of the ladies starting their side biz, I'm here and I don't believe in secrets. I want to tell you everything I know about it all - I want to help you be successful and educate you on what I have lived through in the past as I started to chase my dream. I started my small business, Te Mooi, in August of 2018. Which for the record has been the hardest thing I have ever done! From my Biochem undergrad, publishing a scientific paper to moving 20+ hours away from family to support the man I love. *UPDATE: no longer the hardest thing I've done, being a mom is much more taxing but the rewards of motherhood are second to none*.
To me starting a small business is like white water rafting. When you hit the rapids there’s no choice - you’ve gotta paddle for dear life and trust that you’ll make it to peaceful waters soon. And when you do get to the other side (and you always do) all of that paddling is so worthwhile. And even though I am still in the rapids and still learning the process myself- I couldn’t be happier. Because here’s the thing: when you do what you love, building a business that satisfies your soul isn’t that difficult at all. I am learning and growing and chasing my dreams. I am able to share my love of fashion with all of you. This is what makes me happy. Making people feel, own, and celebrate themselves through their style! And I cannot wait to pop that bubbly once we're in the calm waters. Mel, xx
